Heart Granny Square Crochet Pattern

While this is not the classic type of granny square, it is a heart that is crocheted in the same classic way. This crochet heart granny square is not really a square, but instead one that is created with the classic granny square method.

This granny square heart is perfect for appliques to be used for Valentine’s Day projects, or a part of an overlay crochet project where you crochet this on top of a solid granny square.

Crochet Stitches Used

This heart granny square crochet pattern uses the slip stitch (sl st), double crochet (dc), and half double crochet (hdc) stitches.

The double crochet stitch is often the penultimate stitch used when creating granny squares. It is what gives this heart shaped crochet piece its classic granny square look.

It also starts out using a magic circle, which also aids in creating the middle of the heart pattern.
