Granny Ripple Crochet Blanket

Easy Granny Ripple Afghan Pattern!

If you love the look of ripple blankets but are intimidated, then you have come to the right place!

This granny ripple blanket is great for a beginner because I made it with the granny stitch (a combination of double crochets) which is an easy stitch to learn!

The Stitch

If you can double crochet, then you can make this blanket! The pattern simply repeats the first row over and over and over again.

This easy stitch is why the granny chevron ripple pattern is a beginner-friendly crochet blanket!

The Yarn

When I designed this ripple blanket, I used my favorite yarn, Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand Yarn. I love this yarn and always grab it when I’m designing because there are so many colors to choose from!

It is considered a worsted weight four yarn and easy to work up. It also washes extremely well, which is a must when you have children or pets who constantly use them.

Vanna’s Choice

This yarn is made by Lion Brand, and is a Weight 4 – Medium yarn.

  1. I don’t understand exactly what the 1st row is saying to do in the beginning. Can you clarify the directions?

  2. wow I really like this pattern and hope to make one soon. thank you for making it free for us… be blessed….

  3. I counted 214 chains and the ending did not come out the same as the beginning. I had too many sets of 3- double crochet at the end, therefore the second row does not come out according to the directions.

  4. Becky. Sometimes when you put 3 dc,, 3 ch, 3 dc in one stitch it makes the very next stitch shrink It can be easy to miss when you ” skip the next two chains” and this may be why you count is off.. Before you do the cluster mark the very next stitch first so you won’t skip it by mistake.

  5. Krista, my granddaughter asked me to crochet this ripple blanket foir her in 2 colors. She wants a full/queen size. How many chains do I start with and how do I determine how many skeins since it is 2 colors?

  6. Hi again! yeah that’s what I thought so I chained 180 but for some reason I can not get it to end correctly. I have started and restarted about 10 times. Not sure exactly what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?! 🙂

    1. HI Becky!
I would suggest using stitch markers to keep count on the starting chain. I like to put some every 20 chains because it is so easy for me to lose count. 🙂

  7. Hi I love this pattern but can you tell me when this is finished is it a full size blanket or small like a baby blanket? I see you are from Pittsburgh – I am also from the Pittsburgh area! GO PENS!

    1. Hi Becky, I chained 90 for my blanket which gives a finished dimension of 68″ x 30″. We use it as a throw blanket on the couch but if you wanted it bigger I would use a multiple of 18 on your starting chain to get the size you prefer. 🙂
