Crochet Hat Pattern for Autumn and Fall

The Yarn That Works Great for This Beanie!

This crochet beanie was designed with Lion Brand Yarn Heartland, which is one of the softest yarns available! It is a four weight yarn (aka worsted weight) and 100% acrylic.

I decided to use the Joshua Tree color, which is a beautiful yarn in a tweedy shade of green. It is the perfect yarn color Fall!

The yarn is incredibly soft and comes in a variety of colors that are all inspired by nature. If you haven’t had the chance to work with this line of yarn yet, then I highly recommend it!

  1. Hi Krista thank you so much for your patterns. I love them. Today I’m going to make The Autumn Beanie for my daughter whose has been helping me recover from a bad fall I had last October.

  2. Have you ever done this with Scarfie yarn? I think I made this hat 3 years ago, but can’t find the pattern or name. I recall clearly that the blog post stated it also worked up really well with Scarfie yarn. Thank you.

  3. Super cute. I am not coming close to you gauge or expected circumference. I don’t have a 5.25mm hook so I used a 5.5 but my gauge is still too tight. Should I just repeat round four until it’s big large enough for my size head?

  4. Thank you for this pattern! I really like how this looks on your photo. I will be making it soon!

  5. Krista,

This hat is great, I absolutely love it! It’s convinced me to start crocheting again. 🙂

One question, are you using the regular Heartland yarn, or the Heartland Thick and Quick? With the regular Heartland (in the Glacier Bay color, medium (4) weight) no matter how much I loosened up my tension, I couldn’t come anywhere near 10 stitches to 4 inches. I ended up with almost twice that many to get to 4 inches. I’ve gone up to a size M hook in order to get 10 stitches (worked in the pattern) to 4 inches. It just seems rather loose so that’s why I was wondering about the yarn thickness.

    Thanks for this great pattern!

  6. I’m just not getting the same stitch pattern by repeating the 2hdc
    Each round.
    I started w majic loop& ch2.
Shouldn’t I get the same pattern results as you did putting the 10 hdc in the ch2?
    Thanks Krista,
    Deborah G Autumn Beanie pattern.

  7. Ok so I love this fl, bl stitch texture. Just did a gauge swatch with I hook, and I can’t come close to your gauge of 10 st to 4 inches. I feel I am crocheting loose as it is and I am getting 16 st to 4 in counting each stitch.

  8. Hi Krista!

Round 2: When you say ch1 and then starting in the 2nd ch from the hook… Which stitch is the 2nd ch from the hook?

Once I get my buttons I will post a picture of my two Andy scarfs.. One in Vanna’s choice and one in heartland.. I like the feel of the scarf in Heartland against my face but I like the look and the bulk and the stitch definition that I got with Vanna’s choice.. I just wish Vanna’s choice was a little less scratchy because it is so easy to work with..

    Have a great day

    Colleen
