The Yarn You’ll Want to Use to Make This Beginner-Friendly Scarf

I used Loops & Threads® Country Loom™ Yarn from Michaels in shale. This was my first time using this bulky yarn and I have to say I really loved it.

You only need less than 2 skeins of this yarn, and the color combinations are endless because of the great variety that Michaels stores carries. If you can’t find this yarn, Lion Brand Homespun is a great alternative!

It is super soft and the shale color is so beautiful with its mixture of gray, brown and tan tones. Take a look at the Country Loom yarn and let me know what you think.

The Easy Crochet Stitch to Make this Simple Crochet Scarf

I decided to use a simple double crochet stitch for this entire pattern, so it would be perfect for beginner crocheters.

Double Crochet (dc):

  1. Wrap the yarn over (yo) the hook, insert the hook into the specified st.
  2. Yo the hook again, draw the yarn through the st, so there are 3 loops on the hook
  3. Yo the hook again draw it through 2 loops, so there are 2 loops on the hook
  4. Yo the hook, draw it through the final 2 loops.

Since it uses this easy crochet stitch, it really is a quick one-hour project!

    1. Hi Bernadette,

I updated the post to include the stitch explanations with links to tutorials in the pattern.

I hope this helps, and happy crocheting!

    1. Hi Angela, It would, but it would not turn out to be the same size since the regular homespun is not as chunky. I would suggest holding two skeins together at the same time to try to get a similar thickness.

      Happy Crocheting!

  1. hi, just wondering if it uses exactly 208yards as the wool I’d like to use comes in skiens of 88yards. thanks!

  2. If I want to make this bigger just add more chains to the foundation row? Is there a multiple number I need to use? Love the color!

  3. Sooooo….your pattern says to “be careful not to twist the yarn” (chain). If I do, does it make a huge difference?? (I’m reluctant to pull out my first row, even though I did twist it 🙁 )
Thanks for any advice you can provide!
    Signed,
    Lazy crocheter! 😉

      1. Thanks, Krista! I just continued…..I REALLY wanted to assess how it turned out. So fun – great pattern!! NOW I have a “mobius simple double crochet scarf”!! Hehehe!
I’m definitely doing another – correctly this time! 😀
