This simple cozy was designed to fit most standard bottles, and it’s perfect for keeping your drinks cold during those St. Patrick’s Day celebrations! It uses easy crochet stitches and works up fast!

I use mine around the house all year long, mostly because it makes the kids laugh at their mom. If a shamrock cozy keeps them happy, then it’s a win for me!

How to Crochet a Beer Cozy

Skill Level: Easy

Materials

Abbreviations

Notes

  • Gauge = 5 st’s for every 2″
  • Finished shamrock = approx. 2″ width & 3″ height at widest & tallest points.
  • Finished cozy = approx. 7.5″ circumference & 4″ height
  • Written in standard US terms
  • Make it with a clover appliqué instead, using our free pattern.

Crochet Shamrock

using J 6.00 mm hook & Kelly Green yarn

Round 1: ch 2, in 2nd ch from hook sc 6 times, sl st to top of first sc.

Round 2: ch 2, dc 3 times in first st,  sc in next st, dc 3 times in same st as sc, sc in next st, dc 3 times in same st as sc, sc in next st, dc 3 times in same st as sc, sc in next st, sl st in next st, ch 5, in 2nd ch from hook sc, sc in next 4 ch’s sl st into sl st from round 1.

Finishing: leave a 12″ tail of yarn when fastening off for attaching to cozy.

using H 5.00 mm hook & Dusty Green yarn

Row 1: ch 22, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in every ch across, turn. (21)

Row 2: ch 1, starting in first st * sc, sc in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, hdc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat from * ending with 1 sc in last 3 sts, turn. (21)

Row 3: ch 1, sc in first st and in every st across, turn. (21)

Row 4:  ch 2, starting in first st * hdc, hdc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * ending with 1 hdc in last 3 sts, turn. (21)

Row 5: repeat row 3, turn. (21)

Row 6: repeat row 2, turn. (21)

Row 7: repeat row 3, turn. (21)

Row 8: repeat row 4, turn. (21)

Row 9: repeat row 3, turn. (21)

Row 10: repeat row 2, turn. (21)

Row 11: repeat row 4, turn. (21)

Row 12: repeat row 2, fasten off leaving a 8″ yarn tail. (21)

Finishing

Fold in half like shown, using yarn needle attach to short ends together, fasten off and weave in ends with yarn needle throughout. Now attach shamrock to cozy with 12″ tail securely. You are done! You have created your very own crochet cozy!
